    1. How does AKWADRAIN Strip Drain and AMERDRAIN Sheet Drain replace stone and pipe?

Both products are manufactured using a two-part system composed of geotextile fabric and a polystyrene core, giving you a total collection and transport drainage system eliminating the need for pipe and stone. The fabric allows filtration of the water while holding back the soil particles. The core transports the water. This can be used down a basement wall using our AMERDRAIN Sheet Drain or as a collection system in landscaping using AKWADRAIN Strip Drain.
    2. How is AKWADRAIN Strip Drain installed?

AKWADRAIN Strip Drain can be installed two ways:

You can drain residential and commercial properties, recreational areas, parking areas, and playgrounds by digging trenches 2-4” wide through areas where you want to drain the water. The trench needs to be deep enough to allow 2-3 inches of cover over the Strip Drain. Install the AKWADRAIN Strip Drain and back fill the trench with sand or pea gravel. Add the END OUTLET fitting to Strip Drain to connect into an existing pipe to transport water to daylight, if desired. Backfill the top 3” with soil.

You can also use the AKWADRAIN Strip Drain to replace the collection system for residential homes around foundations. Simply place the Strip Drain against the wall footings around the perimeter of the house and backfill. Note that the Dimple side should face away from the wall. Fittings are also available to handle corners and step downs.

    3. How is AMERDRAIN 200 Sheet Drain installed for a residential application?

If you are installing a drainage system around a basement or crawl space, install the AMERDRAIN 200 Sheet Drain up against the wall (dimples facing out) with the Strip Drain at the bottom as your collection system. The Strip drain will be installed within the Sheet Drain to provide a total drainage system from the wall as well around the foundation. You can also use this system behind retaining walls with or without the Strip Drain.

For a patio installation, the AMERDRAIN 200 Sheet Drain is installed with the fabric side up at the subgrade.  The sand bed is poured on top.  This will allow water to drain through the brick and stone and reduce the amount of standing water.

    4. I have water collecting against the side of my house. How can I remove the standing water?

You can eliminate the standing water by using the AKWADRAIN Strip Drain. Create a swell a few feet away from the side of the house to allow the water to collect away from the house. Inside the swell, dig a trench parallel to the side of the house to the location you want the water to drain. The trench only needs to be 2-4” wide and 9” deep. Insert the AKWADRAIN 6” Strip Drain and attach to designated drainage outlet with our END OUTLET fitting. Backfill the trench with sand or pea gravel and the top 3” with soil.

    5. My basement is leaking through the walls. What can I do?

First, call your contractor. You may have a faulty drainage system installed. To repair the system, you or the contractor will have to remove the soil from the basement wall down to the footing and remove the existing drainage system and install a new system. This includes cleaning off the wall, applying waterproofing, and installing AMERDRAIN 200 with an appropriate collection system. The AKWADRAIN 6” Strip Drain can be used as your collection system instead of the traditional pipe and stone system. For other alternatives, call our technical support staff at 1-800-242-WICK.

    6. Will your product reduce the run-off on the slope of my landscape? Can it handle my down spout from my gutters?

No. Our product is not used for surface drainage applications or downspouts. Our drainage products are for subsurface use only and cannot control surface runoff or the downspout drainage.
    7. How do I install the AMERDRAIN Sheet Drain? Which way do the dimples go?

AMERDRAIN Sheet Drain should be installed with the dimple cones facing towards your water source, which typically is from the soil.  The Sheet Drain’s top edge consist of a piece of flat plastic called a flange to allow you to shingle the next sheet drain on top of another if your wall is greater than 4 feet.  When you come to a splicing area, all you need to do is butt the plastic edges together and overlap the fabric.  Tape the fabric in place.
    8. Can I install the AKWADRAIN Strip Drain flat instead of vertically as suggested?

The AKWADRAIN Strip Drain is designed to collect water by maximizing the use of gravity.  By installing it vertically, you maximize vertical surface area against the soil (i.e. 6 inches with our 6” AKWADRAIN Strip Drain) as well as allow moisture as far at 10 feet away to be collected.  If the Strip Drain was installed flat, there would only be a 1-inch surface area for the water to flow down into the soil.  This also limits the surface area the Strip Drain can collect beyond the Strip Drain (1-2 feet beyond the Strip Drain).
    9. What size does the AMERDRAIN Sheet Drain come in?

The AMERDRAIN Sheet Drain comes in standard size of 4 ft by 50 ft long rolls which cover 200 sqft. You can also get them in lengths of 52 ft or 104 ft. For the retail market, you can find the rolls in 4 ft by 25 ft rolls.
